Olympian Noah Lyles may hold the title of the “fastest man in the world,” but his relationship with Jamaican athlete Junelle Bromfield has developed at a thoughtful pace.

The couple first connected in 2017 via social media. After several months of online communication, they arranged to meet in person.

However, their initial date did not go as planned, leading them to decide to remain friends rather than pursue a romantic relationship.

“Whenever I get into a relationship, I’m very serious,” Lyles shared during an interview on the Fast Lane Lifestyle podcast.

Despite the rocky start, the two stayed in touch. In 2022, Lyles decided to give their relationship another chance and asked Bromfield out again. This time, their romance flourished.

“We’re going to grow old together and it’s going to be forever,” Lyles said on the Fast Lane Lifestyle podcast.

The couple now resides in Florida and trains together for the 2024 Paris Olympics. While they maintain a professional demeanor on the track, their social media profiles reveal plenty of public displays of affection.

In April 2024, Bromfield showcased a recent romantic gesture from Lyles: a new car. She shared a video on Instagram of Lyles revealing a Hyundai Genesis, captioning it, “First car. Paperwork took so long my excitement ran out. Thank you baby.”

Junelle Bromfield was born on February 8, 1998, in Black River, Jamaica. Lyles has frequently visited her hometown and embraced Jamaican culture.

At a 2024 press conference, he wore a Jamaican-inspired Adidas outfit, a nod to his girlfriend’s heritage. He expressed his admiration for Jamaica, saying, “When you go to Jamaica, you’re treated like a freaking rock star.”

Like Lyles, Bromfield is an accomplished track-and-field athlete. While Lyles competes in the 100 and 200 meters, Bromfield specializes in the 400 meters.

At the 2020 Summer Olympics, she won a bronze medal, mirroring Lyles’ achievement. They both competed in the 2024 Summer Games in Paris, where Lyles secured gold in the 100-meter final and bronze in the 200-meter final, after testing positive for COVID.

Bromfield praised Lyles’ performance on Instagram, writing, “The run that I’m proudest about. You are a fighter.”

Bromfield is also set to represent Jamaica in the women’s 4x400m relay final.

The couple officially began dating in the summer of 2022, making their relationship Instagram official a few months later in December.

Bromfield joined Lyles at the USATF Night of Legends celebration, where he won the Male Athlete of the Year Award. The next day, they shared photos of their red carpet date night on social media.

In August 2023, Bromfield celebrated their first anniversary with a heartfelt Instagram post, writing, “Cheers to 7 years of friendship, 6 months of dating, 1 year of being your partner, And to forever loving you.”

Before their romance in 2022, Lyles and Bromfield were friends for several years. During a joint interview on the Fast Lane Lifestyle podcast, Bromfield admitted to reaching out to Lyles via social media in 2017.

They began chatting and playing iPhone games together. When they met in person the following year, their connection didn’t click, leading them to remain friends.

Their relationship remained platonic until 2022, when Lyles decided to give it another chance. For their second date, nearly five years after their initial meeting, they went out for sushi, where Lyles taught Bromfield how to use chopsticks.

Lyles has been open about his mental health, including his use of antidepressants and its impact on his training.

Bromfield revealed that Lyles’ advocacy for therapy influenced her to start therapy herself. She described it as helpful in dealing with survivor’s guilt, allowing her to fully enjoy life.

Bromfield has also developed a strong bond with Lyles’ family, particularly his mother, Keisha Caine.

She expressed gratitude for Caine’s support, sharing that she was driven to training daily when she first moved to Florida. Bromfield initially lived with Lyles’ mother, who also took her to practice every morning.

Lyles noted that Bromfield now lives with him, adding, “My sister, my mom, my pops, they were heartbroken.”

Although they train together, Lyles and Bromfield maintain a clear boundary between their personal and professional lives. “Even before we started dating, we had a very good balance,” Lyles said on the Fast Lane Lifestyle podcast.

“We’d show up to quite a few track meets that we were both at and, we weren’t dating at the time, but nobody would know that we knew each other.”

Their relationship remains separate from their professional life, with Bromfield insisting that Lyles doesn’t call her “baby” at practice. Outside of track, they enjoy dancing together, which Lyles has shared on social media.

Lyles spoke about how his relationship with Bromfield has fostered patience and good communication.

Despite their different approaches to conflict—Lyles prefers immediate discussion while Bromfield needs time— they have learned to adapt to one another. Bromfield was drawn to Lyles for his brutal honesty, which he values in their relationship.

Lyles expressed that their deep understanding and acceptance of each other is what solidified their commitment. “Hearing things like that is like, yeah, I’d want a woman like that to raise my kids,” he said.
