Ronda Rousey and her husband, Travis Browne, are expecting another child! During the San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, Rousey shared some exciting news alongside the launch of her new graphic novel, Expecting the Unexpected: she is pregnant with their second child.
At a panel discussion with Dave Bautista, the professional wrestler and author of two memoirs discussed her latest project and revealed that, like the character in her graphic novel, she is also expecting. After the panel, Rousey posed for photos, proudly cradling her baby bump.
This announcement comes nearly three years after Rousey and Browne welcomed their first child together, La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō, in 2021. Browne also has two sons, Kaleo and Keawe, from a previous marriage.
Since becoming a mother, Rousey has been open about her experiences, frequently sharing heartfelt moments and reflections on social media.
In a June 2023 interview, she spoke about La’akea’s resilient nature and how her young daughter is already following in her footsteps.
“Oh, she’s definitely going to be tough. She doesn’t respond to pain much,” Rousey shared, recounting a recent incident where her daughter scraped her knee without crying. “The world isn’t ready for this little girl.”
Here’s more about Ronda Rousey’s children.
Rousey and Browne welcomed their first child together, La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō Browne, in September 2021. The birth of their daughter, affectionately nicknamed “Pō,” was a significant moment for the couple, who celebrated her arrival with heartfelt social media posts.
Rousey shared glimpses of the newborn, and Browne echoed the sentiment on his Instagram, writing, “Welcome to this world, La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō Browne. You are so incredibly loved!”
Rousey often posts updates about La’akea, sharing snippets of their life together, from gym visits to local chicken hatchery outings. Her content about La’akea highlights their close bond.
In April 2024, Rousey posted a video on Instagram of La’akea running into her arms, captioned, “No place I’d rather be.”
While balancing motherhood, Rousey has continued her career, including filming the reality competition show Stars on Mars. She found it challenging to be away from her child for an extended period.
“That was the most challenging thing, just being away from my baby,” she told in June 2023. “I had a really hard time being away from her,” adding that “the mom guilt was compounding by the day.”
Rousey recalled the emotional reunion with La’akea after finishing the Fox series.
“When she saw me, she wanted to jump into my arms and then she wanted me to put her down and just run around the house with me and then pick her up,” Rousey shared.
Once La’akea “finally calmed down” from the excitement, they celebrated by watching Frozen.
“That night, she slept in the bed with us, with her little head in my nook, and I fell asleep holding her,” Rousey added. “It was the most amazing feeling after being away for so long.”
Rousey often reflects on how motherhood has transformed her life, making her more considerate and improving her mental health. She shared that focusing on her daughter has helped her stop being so hard on herself, emphasizing the positive impact La’akea has had on her well-being.
“I’m just so much happier that I’m no longer ruminating over myself all day,” Rousey explained. “I think the best part about it is that it’s mentally made me more healthy and made me stop beating myself up so much because I’m so concerned with taking care of her.”
La’akea already shows signs of her mother’s toughness. According to Rousey, she handles pain with remarkable resilience. “She just fell and scraped her knee today, and she didn’t even cry. She just kind of grunts it out!” she said.
At the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, Rousey attended to promote the launch of her new graphic novel, Expecting the Unexpected*.
The book, launched through a Kickstarter campaign, tells the story of “two rival assassins who end up unexpectedly pregnant and discover that giving life is harder than taking it,” Rousey wrote in an Instagram post.
During the Comic-Con panel, Rousey revealed that art imitates life and announced her second pregnancy.
“IT’S A GIRL! Happy I can finally shout it from the rooftops,” Rousey later wrote on Instagram.
