Aaron Tveit and his girlfriend Ericka Hunter Yang transitioned from costars to partners. The Tony winner and dancer first sparked dating rumors when they starred together in Broadway’s “Moulin Rouge!”, but they didn’t publicly confirm their relationship until years later.
Despite Tveit having starred opposite numerous leading ladies on screen and stage—such as Blake Lively on “Gossip Girl” and more recently Sutton Foster in “Sweeney Todd”—he has generally kept his real-life romances private.
“At the end of the day, I just don’t see why anyone would be interested in what I do outside my work,” Tveit previously explained to “New York Theater Guide” regarding his decision not to overshare on social media.
Nevertheless, Tveit has shared glimpses of his relationship with Yang since they started dating, including sweet birthday tributes and taking her as his date to the 2021 Tony Awards, where he won best performance by an actor in a leading role in a musical for “Moulin Rouge!”.
In July 2024, the couple announced they were expecting their first child together, sharing a photo of Tveit holding Yang’s baby bump with the caption, “Table for 3.” It was also revealed that they were engaged, as Yang was seen wearing a diamond ring.
Yang, originally from Ottawa, Canada, got involved in the arts at a young age, performing in local theater productions and attending an arts-based high school.
Her love for performing seems to run in her family, as her older sister Vanessa began dancing at age 3, and her younger brother Warren Yang, a former gymnast, also pursued a career on Broadway.
He has appeared in shows like “King Kong” and “Miss Saigon”, sharing the stage with his sister in the latter.
“It was a very special time for me to share that with my sister,” he told “Playbill”.
“We’ve always been close, but our professions never crossed until that moment. Broadway, theater, performing was her world — I was lucky to have her guidance during that time.”
She met Tveit while performing in the ensemble of Broadway’s “Moulin Rouge!”, where Tveit played Christian. They were first linked in July 2019, when they were seen together at the show’s opening night party.
However, they did not go public with their romance until May 2021, when Tveit wished her a happy birthday on Instagram.
“My favorite picture of you. My favorite smile,” he captioned a photo of Yang laughing as he kissed her on the cheek. “Happy Birthday @erickahunter I love you!”
The couple made their red carpet debut at the 2021 Tony Awards, where Tveit won best performance by an actor in a leading role in a musical for “Moulin Rouge!”.
Yang expressed her pride in Tveit on Instagram, writing, “So proud of our show…and especially proud of my man.” Tveit also acknowledged Yang in his acceptance speech, thanking her for her “love and support and always putting up with me.”
On July 24, 2024, the couple announced they were expecting their first child together, sharing a photo of Tveit holding Yang’s baby bump while they kissed by the water.
The caption read, “Table for 3,” and the post received many congratulatory messages, including one from their “Schmigadoon!” co-star Dove Cameron, who wrote, “!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i’m going to fall to the floor.”
As they shared their pregnancy news, Tveit and Yang also subtly announced their engagement, with Yang wearing a diamond ring. Tveit’s representative later confirmed the engagement.
