Shilo Sanders, Colorado’s safety, underwent surgery following an arm injury sustained in their game against Nebraska.
His father and coach, Deion Sanders, shared updates on social media, posting photos of Shilo in a wheelchair and with his arm in a cast, expressing optimism and support.
There is currently no set timetable for Shilo’s return, as the school usually does not disclose specific injury details.
During an NBC halftime interview on Saturday, Deion Sanders suspected that his son, Shilo Sanders, had broken his forearm.
However, he had no further updates after the game. Shilo Sanders sustained the injury in the first quarter while tackling Nebraska running back Dante Dowdell in a 28-10 loss. He was subsequently taken to the locker room and did not return to the field.
The loss of Shilo Sanders is a significant setback for Colorado’s defense, which is working to find its rhythm under new defensive coordinator Robert Livingston.
Sanders has contributed 11 tackles this season. Sophomore Savion Riley, listed as his backup, will likely take on a larger role in his absence.
Last season, Shilo Sanders earned an all-Pac-12 honorable mention with 69 tackles and an interception. He began his career at South Carolina before transferring to Jackson State with his father and then moving to Colorado.
In the Nebraska game, quarterback Shedeur Sanders also faced difficulties, being sacked five times. Despite throwing for 244 yards and one touchdown, he threw an interception in the first quarter that Nebraska returned for a touchdown.
“There’s nothing that recovery and everything can’t fix,” the quarterback said of his health after the game. “We’re going to get back to the drawing board.”
