Robert Irwin, the son of the late “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin, did indeed suffer a head injury after accidentally running into a tree just hours before attending an awards show.

During an interview with Dr. Chris Brown, 45, and Sonia Kruger, 58, Robert joked that he needed “a big make-up job” before stepping out on the red carpet.

This lighthearted comment was captured in a video obtained, showing his good spirits despite the earlier mishap.

According to the publication, when asked if was excited to be staying up so late, Irwin told them:

“I just came straight in from catching crocodiles up north.”

It was then that the star detailed his brush with death:

“I just got my head smashed into a tree.
