Nev Schulman, the host of “Catfish,” recently revealed that he broke his neck in a bike accident. The 39-year-old shared the news on Instagram, posting photos and videos from the hospital, including one of him giving a thumbs-up while in bed.
The post also featured X-rays showing the extent of the damage to his neck. Despite the severity of the injury, Schulman appears to be in good spirits and is lucky to be alive.
Schulman said the accident happened while he was going to pick up his son from school.
“I never made it to pick up my son from school on the bike,” he wrote. “In fact in some ways, I’m glad I didn’t. I was alone on impact. Me and the truck. And then I guess the pavement. I was alone and unconscious. And then conscious.”
Nev Schulman shared with his followers that, despite the severity of his neck injury, he is not paralyzed. He mentioned that there was a moment of uncertainty regarding his hands, but he ultimately regained function.
Schulman expressed gratitude, acknowledging that he can’t feel sorry for himself considering how many people with similar injuries might never walk again.
His message highlights his appreciation for being able to recover from such a traumatic accident.
In his Instagram post, Nev Schulman included a touching clip of him standing in the hospital and hugging his children, demonstrating his relief and gratitude for being able to embrace them after the accident.
Another video shows Schulman walking through the hospital hallway, where he high-fives members of the staff, celebrating his recovery and the support he received during his time there.
In the caption of his Instagram post, Nev Schulman reflected on how life can change in an instant. He mentioned that just one day before the bike accident, he had a “magical” day of fishing with his family.
This contrast between a joyful family moment and the sudden, life-altering accident serves as a reminder of how quickly circumstances can shift, emphasizing the importance of cherishing each moment.
“I’m lucky to be here, alive, standing and hugging my family, projected to make a full recovery,” he said.
“And I’m really starting to understand the meaning of gratitude. For the big and little things before the accident, and now everything moving forward.”
Nev Schulman first gained widespread recognition as the star of the 2010 documentary “Catfish,” which explored his experience with online deception and coined the term “catfish” to describe individuals who create false identities online.
The success of the documentary led to the creation of the MTV series “Catfish: The TV Show,” where Schulman has served as the host, helping others uncover the truth behind their online relationships.
The show has been a significant part of his career, bringing awareness to the complexities and risks of digital interactions.
