Lee Corso, a beloved fixture of ESPN’s “College GameDay” since its debut in 1987, is stepping back from his role as a full-time analyst for the 2024 season. Corso, famous for his “headgear pick” segment, where he dons the mascot head of the team he predicts will win, has been a key part of the show’s dynamic for decades.
At 89, Corso has faced health challenges in recent years, which have led to reduced appearances on the program.
For Week 0 of the 2024 college football season, which features Florida State vs. Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland, Corso will not be appearing.
However, ESPN has indicated that Corso will still be involved in the show throughout the 2024 season, though his appearances will be more limited and adjusted based on his health and availability.
Lee Corso suffered a stroke in 2009 that resulted in partial paralysis and required an extended period of recovery. He spent three days in intensive care followed by a week-long stay in the hospital.
The stroke had a significant impact on Corso’s speech, rendering him unable to talk for a month after the incident.
Despite these challenges, Corso demonstrated remarkable resilience and made a strong return to ESPN’s “College GameDay.”
While his speech was affected, he has continued to be a cherished part of the show, known for his spirited personality and memorable “headgear pick” segment, which has endeared him to college football fans for decades.
The network and his colleagues continue to cherish his contributions and the joy he brings to fans with his iconic headgear predictions.
