The Kansas City Chiefs have signed running back Kareem Hunt to their practice squad after he worked out with the team.
The news was reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Hunt’s visit and workout led to his reunion with the team, marking a notable return to Kansas City.
Kareem Hunt will aim to fill in for Isiah Pacheco, who is expected to be sidelined for 6-8 weeks due to a fractured fibula. Hunt is likely to be elevated from the practice squad to play in the coming weeks.
Hunt previously spent two seasons with the Chiefs before his release in 2018, following the emergence of a videotape showing him pushing and kicking a woman, who allegedly used a racial slur against him.
Chiefs owner Clark Hunt stated that Kareem Hunt was released in 2018 because he was not truthful when the team inquired about the incident involving the woman.
This lack of honesty contributed to the decision to part ways with him at that time.
Kareem Hunt had a productive stint with the Kansas City Chiefs, leading the league in rushing and earning a Pro Bowl selection during his rookie season. Before his release, he was on track for another Pro Bowl year, finishing with 824 yards on 181 carries and 14 total touchdowns.
Most recently, the 29-year-old veteran played for the Cleveland Browns, where he recorded 411 yards on 135 carries with nine touchdowns over 15 games last season.
Kareem Hunt aims to provide a spark for the Chiefs’ running back room, which is currently without Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
As the team prepares for their upcoming road game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday Night Football, Hunt will look to prove he still has plenty to offer.
