Amanda Bynes has indeed been largely out of the public eye recently. After rising to fame as a child star on “All That” in 1996, she became a well-known figure in entertainment through various roles in TV shows and films.
However, in recent years, she has focused more on her personal life and has stayed away from the spotlight.
As of 2024, there have been no major public updates or projects announced involving her, indicating she continues to maintain a low profile.
Amanda Bynes starred in “The Amanda Show,” which premiered in 1999. This sketch comedy series was a major success and further cemented her status as a leading Nickelodeon star.
The show not only showcased her comedic talents but also helped launch the careers of other Nickelodeon stars, including Drake Bell and Josh Peck.
Amanda Bynes gained significant recognition during the late ’90s and early 2000s through her work on Nickelodeon, earning six Kids’ Choice Awards and starring in films like Big Fat Liar and What a Girl Wants.
However, in 2010, she announced her retirement from acting, which was accompanied by a series of revealing tweets.
These tweets provided insight into her personal struggles and marked the beginning of a period where she stepped away from the public eye and her acting career.
“Being an actress isn’t as fun as it may seem,” she wrote in 2010.
She additionally tweeted the following around the same time, as an informal announcement that she was walking away from Hollywood:
“If I don’t love something anymore, I stop doing it. I don’t love acting anymore, so I’ve stopped doing it. I know 24 is a young age to retire, but you heard it here first.”
Amanda Bynes has faced significant challenges since her retirement from acting, including struggles with alcohol and substance abuse, legal issues related to driving, and a bipolar disorder diagnosis in 2018.
Her parents, Rick and Lynn Bynes, were granted conservatorship in 2013 to manage her affairs and ensure her well-being.
This conservatorship lasted until 2022, when Bynes, having been in treatment for several years, was deemed capable of managing her own affairs, leading to the conservatorship being officially terminated.
In 2017, Bynes, then three years sober, was a guest on Good Morning America, where she expressed an inclination to give acting another go:
“I do miss acting and I actually have something surprising to tell you, I’m going to start acting again.”
Since Amanda Bynes’ announcement of her retirement from acting, she has not returned to film or television projects.
Despite her previous fame and the support she received during her conservatorship, her public and professional presence has remained minimal.
Amanda Bynes was indeed slated for a reunion with her All That castmates in January 2023, marking her first public appearance since her conservatorship ended. However, she did not participate in the event.
In March 2023, Bynes faced a significant mental health crisis, leading to her admission to a psychiatric hospital after being found wandering the streets without clothes. She was discharged from the facility in July 2023.
In late 2023, Amanda Bynes launched a podcast titled Amanda Bynes & Paul Sieminski: The Podcast, with her best friend Paul Sieminski as co-host. Unfortunately, the podcast was canceled after just one episode.
Since then, Bynes has been sharing updates with her fans through occasional Instagram posts, including a story in March where she expressed that she was “doing a lot better now.”
