Ryan Reynolds Wants A Better Ending For Wesley Snipes’ Blade After Deadpool and Wolverine Cameo

Deadpool & Wolverine saw the return of many beloved superheroes, but Ryan Reynolds is advocating for Wesley Snipes’ Blade to have more screen time.

“The reaction when @realwesleysnipes enters the movie is the most intense thing I’ve heard in a theater,” Reynolds, 47, wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, August 21, alongside photos of him and Snipes, 62, on set.

“People screaming with uninhibited joy and love is also the sound of a legacy.”

Reynolds added, “More Blade please. #DayWalker,” and clarified that he wants the character to receive a “Logan-style send off, specifically.”

Snipes famously portrayed the human-vampire hybrid Blade in the original film trilogy, including 1998’s Blade, 2002’s Blade II, and 2004’s Blade: Trinity. The third installment was the first time Snipes and Reynolds worked together.

Fans seem to agree with Reynolds about giving Snipes a fourth Blade film.

“His cameo got the biggest reaction in our theatre. I screamed at the top of my lungs,” one fan commented on Reynolds’ post. “Long overdue flowers for Wesley Snipes and his contribution to Marvel.”

Another fan added, “Honestly, how can we make it happen? Because we are 100% hyped to see a new Blade movie with Wesley Snipes.”

Reynolds’ Instagram post referenced 2017’s Logan, which was Hugh Jackman’s final appearance as Wolverine before Deadpool & Wolverine. The film was well-received by both critics and fans and is seen as Jackman’s best solo outing.

Snipes’ return as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine surprised many fans, especially since Marvel Studios had announced in 2019 that Mahershala Ali would be taking over the role in a new film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Deadpool & Wolverine humorously alluded to delays in Ali’s Blade movie, which was originally slated for a 2023 release but has been pushed to 2025.

In one scene, Snipes’ Blade declares, “There’s only been one Blade. There’s only ever gonna be one Blade,” while Reynolds’ Deadpool looks directly into the camera.

Some fans have even petitioned for Snipes to reprise his role instead of Ali in the MCU. “Y’all, crazy! Hahaha,” Snipes wrote on Instagram earlier this month, sharing a screenshot of the fan campaign article.

Deadpool & Wolverine marked the first MCU film to feature characters from Fox’s Marvel superhero properties, including the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Blade, and Elektra, following Marvel Studios’ acquisition of these characters through Disney’s purchase of 21st Century Fox, completed in 2019.

The film, which is now the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, also featured cameos from Chris Evans as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Channing Tatum as Gambit, Dafne Keen as X-23, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, and Blake Lively as Ladypool.
