Rich Homie Quann, also known as Dequantes Devontay Lamar, has died at the age of 34. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his death, which was widely reported on social media.
TMZ reported that Rich Homie Quann, whose family confirmed he died at home on Thursday, was found by his girlfriend Amber Williams.
She discovered his lifeless body on a couch after dropping their son off at school. The 911 call made by Williams has since been released.
Multiple reports suggest that Rich Homie Quann may have died from a drug overdose, but this has not been officially confirmed. An autopsy is scheduled for September 6 to determine the cause of death.
Rich Homie Quan, who started rapping in 2011, gained mainstream recognition with his 2013 hit “Type of Way” and his 2015 single “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).”
He was nominated for BET Hip Hop Awards in 2014 and 2015 and for iHeartRadio Music Awards’ Hip Hop Song of the Year in 2016.
He was part of the “Rich Gang” project with Young Thug and frequently collaborated with 2 Chainz and Jacquees.
Born in Atlanta, Rich Homie Quan, whose real name was Dequantes Devontay Lamar, was a baseball player at Ronald McNair Sr. High School with dreams of a professional career.
He briefly attended Fort Valley State University but left due to financial issues. Lamar was scheduled to perform on September 19 with Nick Cannon, Rip Michaels, Waka Flocka, Mardo Wick, Lil Boosie, and others.
