During some of the busiest years of Ashton Kutcher’s career, he was also a stepfather to three young children. “I was twenty-six, bearing the responsibility of an eight-year-old, a ten-year-old, and a twelve-year-old,” Kutcher told Esquire in a digital cover story. He admitted, “It was a lot.”

Kutcher, who is now married to Mila Kunis, lived a different life back then. He was married to Demi Moore in the early 2000s, a period he now sees as a time of personal growth. However, he is not eager to discuss those memories in depth.

Kutcher was 15 years younger than Moore when their relationship became public in 2003. He was not prepared for the intense media attention that followed. He criticized the tabloids at the time but later realized, “It’s stupid to complain about things that you’re contributing to.”

Moore wrote in her 2019 memoir, Inside Out, about her struggles with drinking during their marriage. Reports of Kutcher’s infidelity and their IVF challenges after a miscarriage led to their separation in 2011.

“Losing a kid that you think you’re going to have, and that close to thinking you’re going to have a kid, is really, really painful,” Kutcher said. “Everyone deals with that in different ways.” He believes those experiences were necessary for his growth. However, he also admitted, “Nothing makes you feel like a failure like divorce.”

Kutcher and Kunis have used their experiences to keep their lives more private. They returned to the screen for That ’90s Show but choose not to share photos of their children publicly.

Kutcher said, “The thing about Mila that made our relationship accelerate was that I had always admired her. Her talents, her skills, her gifts. But I knew that she didn’t need me. And she knew that I didn’t need her… We already knew all of each other’s dirt.”

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher were together for eight years before their relationship ended in 2011. They first met in 2003 and quickly became a couple despite their 15-year age gap.

They got married in 2005 but later separated after six years. Two years after their divorce was finalized in 2013, Kutcher married Mila Kunis. Moore later started dating celebrity chef Daniel Humm.

Kutcher has remained close with Moore’s three daughters—Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah—whom she shares with Bruce Willis. “I think you try … but at the same time, I am not their father,” Kutcher said.

“I was never trying to be their father. I always had respect and honored Bruce [Willis]. If they don’t want an engagement with me, I’m not going to force it upon them. But they all do, and it’s great.”
