As their film The Union climbs to the top of Netflix’s rankings, Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry are certainly in the limelight, with fans intrigued by their impressive chemistry on screen.
In this action comedy, Halle portrays a secret agent who reconnects with her high school sweetheart, played by Mark, a construction worker.
As their relationship deepens throughout the film, many fans have been left wondering if the two are dating in real life or if they ever have.
Mark has been happily married to Rhea Durham since 2009, while Halle is currently in a relationship with Van Hunt. So what accounts for their undeniable chemistry?
Mark and Halle have a long-standing friendship, with Halle stating, “I’ve known the guy for 30 years.”
Although they had never collaborated professionally until this film, their time together was a pleasant surprise for her: “We’ve been friends for so long, and working with Mark was the thing I didn’t know I needed,” she shared.
Mark expressed admiration for Halle, saying, “I’ve always been a huge admirer of her work, and doing anything with Halle is an absolute joy,” and noted, “She is what she appears to be on-screen: accessible, sweet, kind, thoughtful, and tough as nails.”
Halle has mentioned that she felt a connection with Mark because they are “cut from the same cloth.” She explained, “We both started in very meager beginnings, almost from the same part of the country.
We had the same references growing up, and we shared many commonalities that sort of bound us together. We relied on that and tried to bring that into our characters.”
For fans curious about the source of Mark and Halle’s undeniable on-screen chemistry, the actor himself is unsurprised.
He stated, “That chemistry would translate onto the screen because, look, we have a great script and a great backstory, but the thing that wins the day is that people want to see us together.”
He elaborated, “That chemistry can’t be created; you either have it or you don’t. She’s fantastic. Everything she appears to be on screen, she is in real life. She’s wonderful, talented, super approachable, and super accessible. She’s amazing.”
Additionally, both actors enjoy performing their own stunts. Mark has done his own for films such as The Family Plan and Lone Survivor, while Halle has undergone training for John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
“Halle is good at everything. I think I was better at the sniper shooting, but I’ve done that before,” Mark noted.
