Mae Whitman first graced our screens in 1994 at the tender age of 7, starring alongside Meg Ryan in When a Man Loves a Woman.
She quickly made a name for herself as a talented child actor, successfully going through the often tricky transition to adult roles.
During her teenage and young adult years, she continued to build her career with memorable roles in Arrested Development and Avatar: The Last Airbender. Now, she’s stepping into a new chapter of her life as she prepares to welcome a child of her own.
However, her pregnancy announcement has sparked curiosity among fans, who wonder about the identity of her child’s father.
After all, science tells us that male biological material is needed for pregnancy, whether or not men play a direct role in the process. So, is Mae Whitman married, or is she planning to raise her baby on her own?
Mae Whitman: A Private Life in the Public Eye
Mae Whitman has always been careful about sharing details of her personal life, especially considering she grew up under the scrutiny of Hollywood.
Unlike contemporaries such as Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes, who were often hounded by paparazzi, Mae managed to maintain a lower profile.
She focused on playing comedic side characters, like Ann (“Who?”) in *Arrested Development*, and stayed largely out of the public eye.
Throughout the years, Mae has had a few public relationships. She dated Peter Krause (9-1-1), Canadian actor Dov Tiefenbach, and most recently, actor Landon Pigg, although that relationship reportedly ended in 2014.
There were also rumors of a brief fling in 2002 with Haley Joel Osment, another former child actor.
But now, it appears that Mae is single and not married. Of course, it’s possible that she’s keeping a partner out of the spotlight to maintain some privacy, which, while rare in Hollywood, isn’t impossible.
Mae has also publicly identified as pansexual, meaning any potential partner could be of any gender, leaving the identity of the baby’s biological father a mystery.
Mae Whitman’s Pregnancy Announcement
Mae announced her pregnancy on May 13, 2024, sharing a photo that featured her Parenthood co-stars Lauren Graham and Miles Heizer.
Lauren, who played her mother on the series, and Miles, who played her brother, have both remained close to Mae since the show ended in 2015.
In fact, Mae and Miles became such close friends during filming that they eventually became roommates, despite their financial ability to live separately.
“Lauren Graham is my best friend, and Dax [Shepard] is my family, and Miles [Heizer], who plays my brother, he’s my roommate, he lives with me in real life,” Mae shared in a 2015 interview.
“We bonded in this way that is so unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.”
Because she announced her pregnancy alongside Lauren and Miles, some fans have speculated that Miles might be the father.
Although Miles is gay, it’s not unheard of for best friends to decide to co-parent. However, if Miles were indeed the father (perhaps through artificial insemination), it’s likely they would have made a joint announcement.
The more likely scenario is that Mae chose to become a mother on her own, either through a sperm donation center or naturally with someone who remains unknown to the public.
Mae Whitman Welcomes Her Baby Boy
Mae welcomed her baby boy in August 2024, naming him Miles. In an Instagram post on August 29, 2024, Mae wrote:
“Not to be a Bieber about it but I too just gave birth to our son, Miles. From the moment we heard the first tiny sound out of his tiny piggy mouth, we were besotted.
He is the kindest, gentlest, smartest, funniest little beebee, and he’s our best friend (pretty much exactly like his namesake Uncle Miles @younggoth).”
While the identity of the baby’s father remains a mystery, it’s clear that Mae has a strong support system in her friends, who are fully behind her as she embarks on this new journey of motherhood.
Mae’s friends, particularly her close circle, will undoubtedly be by her side as she raises her “huge baby kicking [her] insides to filth!”
