Kevin Costner’s Wild West Movie Horizon: An American Saga Set to Hit Max Streaming Platform

The untamed spirit of the wild west is coming straight to your living room: Kevin Costner’s “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1” will be available on Max starting Friday, Aug. 23.

This first chapter of Costner’s western series, in which he starred, co-directed, co-wrote, produced, and co-financed, explores the lives of multiple characters in the American West during and after the Civil War.

Costner originally envisioned the “Horizon” saga as a four-part film series, with the first two movies filmed consecutively. However, following the first film’s disappointing box office performance, the future of the series now seems uncertain.

The second film in the “Horizon” series was initially scheduled for an Aug. 16 theatrical release but was delayed after the first film earned only $11 million during its opening weekend, despite having a budget of approximately $100 million.

Costner revealed that he personally invested $38 million to fund the film. “Horizon Chapter 2” is now set to premiere out-of-competition at the Venice Film Festival on Sept. 7.

A spokesperson for New Line Cinema recently informed that the decision to delay the second film’s release was made to “give audiences a greater opportunity to discover the first installment of ‘Horizon’ over the coming weeks, including on PVOD and Max.”

The western’s ensemble cast includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Giovanni Ribisi, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Tatanka Means, Owen Crow Shoe, Jamie Campbell Bower, and Thomas Haden Church.

The first chapter of the series was released on PVOD on July 16, less than a month after its theatrical debut on June 28.

Costner began production on the third film in the series in May but paused to promote the first installment.

Filming for “Chapter 3” was anticipated to resume in August, with key crew members already holding the script for the fourth and final film.
