Kelsey Plum and Darren Waller have filed for divorce in Clark County District Court in Las Vegas. The couple, who were married in March 2023 after dating for about a year, are ending their marriage less than two years later.
“I’m devastated,” Plum wrote on social media. “I walked through fire for that man, but now I see it’s time to go. God has given me such an incredible life, and I’m truly so grateful for the profound love from my family and friends. One day I’ll share my story, today is not that day.”
Kelsey Plum, a two-time WNBA champion with the Las Vegas Aces and the first overall pick of the 2017 WNBA draft, began dating Darren Waller while he was with the Las Vegas Raiders.
She also won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in women’s 3×3 basketball. Waller, a Pro Bowl tight end in 2020, has not yet decided if he will play the 2024 NFL season or retire.
Darren Waller has shared that he’s been reflecting on his role in the breakdown of his marriage to Kelsey Plum, which lasted just one year.
Darren Waller, who retired from the NFL last month after eight seasons, mentioned on Power 105.1’s ‘The Breakfast Club’ that he was compelled to “look in the mirror” and reflect on himself after Kelsey Plum ended their relationship.
‘You talk about get honest or die lying, you kinda got to look at yourself and realize, alright, what role am I playing that all the relationships in my life have always had the same patterns,’ he said on Monday’s episode of the show.
‘It kinda plays into everything else I was mentioning earlier, the co-dependency aspect like, any time I’m in a relationship, I feel like I gotta dance or do a certain thing to keep this person around, almost tying my self-worth to the success of a relationship, and you realize how much you lose yourself and doing the things that you love and things that take care of you on a daily basis.’
Darren Waller suggested that making Kelsey Plum “the center of [his] universe” was “unhealthy” for both of them. He explained on ‘The Breakfast Club’ that this focus impacted his ability to make authentic decisions for his life.
He acknowledged that, given the future ahead of both of them, it was best to move on without hostility. He and Plum, a two-time WNBA champion, were married in March 2023.
