Are wedding bells in the future for Jennifer Hudson and Common?
The rapper, 52, discussed the possibility of marriage with his EGOT-winning partner during Thursday’s episode of her talk show.
Back in July, he sparked buzz by hinting that if he were ever to get married, it would be to her.
“I heard you’ve been out there talking about marriage,” Hudson said to Common. “What’s that about? I mean, I just happened to notice that!”
Common responded by referencing advice from Hudson’s mother, saying, “a man knows what he wants.”
He went on to tell the “Dreamgirls” star that he was sharing his “true feelings” when he said, “if I should be married, it would be to Jennifer Kate Hudson.
I was just being honest!” Turning the tables, Common then asked Hudson for her thoughts on the matter.
“I support that idea,” Hudson replied. “I think it’s a beautiful idea!” However, she quickly tempered audience excitement by adding that it would be in “due time,” if it “ever gets to that place.”
During their conversation, Common also reflected on his sense of purpose, adding, “I know what purpose is, and this feels like purpose right here.”
In addition to the candid chat about marriage, Common surprised Hudson with gifts, including jewelry and a blanket bearing the title of her upcoming holiday album, The Gift of Love.
Hudson revealed that Common had helped her come up with the album’s title.
Hudson later praised Common, describing him as a “very special man” who “radiates positivity and embodies it in everything that he does.”
She then presented him with a “joyful spirit award,” which led to the two sharing a kiss to the delight of the studio audience.
“When you hear his name, Common, you think of a storyteller, a poet, an artist who speaks truth to power,” Hudson said.
“But when I think of this man, Rashid, I think of your heart, your faith, and what I love most about him: He is a praying man.
He is a man of his word. He is like nobody I have ever seen in my life. Talk about choosing joy. You are joy. You are my joy, and you are light.”
Speculation about their romance had swirled for months, and Common made a revealing appearance on Hudson’s talk show in January.
When Hudson playfully asked, “Are you dating anyone?”
Common hinted at their relationship, telling viewers that his girlfriend has an EGOT, won “an Oscar on her first movie,” and has “her own talk show.”
In June, Hudson provided an update about their relationship, simply saying, “Everything is wonderful. That’s all you need to know.”
Common echoed her sentiments on the talk show, adding, “I’m in a relationship with one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever met in life. This relationship is a happy place for me.”
Hudson confirmed she was also “very happy” in their relationship, leaving fans to wonder what might be next for the couple.
