Jabrill Peppers has provided a different account of events from what his alleged victim reported to police following his arrest on Saturday.
According to the police report, the woman, who is reportedly Peppers’ girlfriend, claimed that the Patriots captain and former Giants player became violent around 4 a.m.
She told police that during an argument, Peppers put his hands around her neck, slammed her head against a wall, and threw her down the stairs after receiving a phone call that upset him while they were engaged in intercourse.
The 29-year-old NFL veteran now faces charges of assault, strangulation, and drug possession in connection with the incident.
Peppers, however, offered a different version of events to authorities, stating that the altercation did not escalate to the level described by the woman.
He claimed that she had been behaving “erratic” and was intoxicated at the time.
Peppers was arrested at his apartment in Braintree after police responded to a domestic dispute call. He appeared in Quincy District Court for his arraignment on Monday, October 7.
According to multiple reports, Peppers told officers that the woman “became enraged with him when he refused to have unprotected sex with her.”
The police report further notes, “According to Jabrill, [the woman] kept acting erratic and refused to leave.
According to Jabrill, [the woman] fell by herself on the stairs because she was intoxicated. He denied pushing her down the stairs, and he said that she was making those allegations to destroy his career.”
During their investigation, police found a bag containing white powder in Peppers’ wallet, which they said Peppers admitted was cocaine.
Peppers’ legal team is disputing the allegations. As Peppers left court on Monday, his attorney told reporters they had evidence that “completely contradicts the alleged victim’s story.”
The attorney stated that they possess video footage and “other” evidence supporting Peppers’ account.
The next court hearing is scheduled for November 22, but Peppers is not required to attend.
Peppers signed with the New England Patriots in 2022, following three seasons with the New York Giants.
He was originally drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2017 with the 25th overall pick.
In a 2023 game against the Giants, Peppers, wearing number 5 for the Patriots, reacted after forcing a turnover.
