Kanye West reportedly claimed in text messages to Elon Musk that he became autistic after a 2002 car crash and stated he is not bipolar. Ian Connor shared screenshots of these messages on Instagram, but the claims remain unverified.
“When are we going to speak You owe me nothing,” writes Kanye to Musk.
“You never have to speak to me again But if we do speak The nature of the relationship has to change I’m not bipolar I have signs of autism from my [2002] car accident,” reads the screenshot further.
In the text messages, Kanye West referenced his 2002 car crash, mentioned in his song “Through the Wire,” and discussed how Kim Kardashian was keeping him from their children.
Despite this, Kanye was recently seen with his son Saint at a football game in Italy. He asked Elon Musk for public support against Kardashian and criticized Musk’s social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), as “struggling.”
He compared mental conditions to physical issues, stating,
“It is a health issue… It’s like a sprained brain, like having a sprained ankle. And if someone has a sprained ankle, you’re not going to push on him more.”
Kanye West uses alternative treatments for his condition but acknowledges the many available options for managing bipolar disorder.
He aims to raise awareness about bipolar disorder and combat misconceptions surrounding it and other mental health conditions, promoting a better understanding and support for those affected.
“It’s a health issue that has a strong stigma on it, and people are allowed to say anything about it and discriminate in any way,” West stated.
