Canadian battle rapper Pat Stay, whose full name was Patrick Wayne Stay, was fatally stabbed in downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia. The incident occurred shortly after midnight.
Halifax Regional Police found him with stab wounds and transported him to a local hospital, where he later passed away.
An autopsy conducted by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service confirmed that his death was a homicide. Pat Stay was 36 years old at the time of his death.
Halifax Regional Police stated they are actively investigating the homicide of Pat Stay but have not yet made any arrests. In a statement, they expressed,
“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Pat Stay gained popularity as a battle rapper, known for his skills in the competitive format where two freestyling rap artists exchange sharp insults and clever wordplay in front of a live audience.
Following the news of Pat Stay’s death, many fellow rappers paid tribute to him. Eminem, a prominent figure in the hip-hop community, tweeted: “hiphop lost one of the best battlers of all time … RIP @patstay .. KINGS NEVER DIE.”
This sentiment reflects the high regard in which Pat Stay was held in the battle rap scene, where he was considered one of the greatest for his sharp wit, delivery, and lyrical prowess.
Fellow Canadian rapper Drake also paid tribute to Pat Stay in an Instagram story, posting:
“RIP to the Sucka Free Boss.. One of my fav rappers ever.”

In Pat Stay’s memory, a GoFundMe campaign was established to support his family, and it has already raised over $100,000.
The fundraising effort highlights the impact Pat Stay had on those who knew him and the wider community, who have come together to support his loved ones during this difficult time.
“We are setting up this fund to help raise money for our fallen brothers family,” the fundraiser read.
“He has been taken from the world far [too] soon and many will be devastated forever.
Pat Stay was a very honorable man who was on his way to a bright future.
