The recent hospital report reveals troubling details about MMA fighter Kimbo Slice’s health prior to his unexpected death at the age of 42.
According to sources, Slice, whose real name was Kevin Ferguson, was admitted to Northwest Medical Center on June 3 with severe abdominal pain, shortness of breath, and nausea.
During his hospitalization, he was diagnosed with a liver mass and congestive heart failure. Just days before his passing, doctors informed him that he needed a heart transplant.
Slice was subsequently placed on a ventilator and cared for in intensive care. This information sheds light on the serious health issues he was facing leading up to his death, which shocked fans and the MMA community alike.
Plans were underway to transport Kimbo Slice to a clinic in Cleveland where he could be placed on an organ donor list. Unfortunately, he passed away on Tuesday (AEST) before that could occur.
The report provided to the Broward County Medical Examiner’s office stated that Slice did not have a history of illicit drug use, and there were no indications of trauma or foul play in his death.
The Broward County Medical Examiner’s office decided not to conduct an autopsy on Kimbo Slice, stating,
“We were informed of his death and after review of the circumstances, we declined jurisdiction. It is not a medical examiner case … No medical legal investigation, including toxicology, is necessary.”
This decision indicates that they did not find any reason to suspect foul play or that his death was linked to any external factors.
Slice’s last fight was in February against Dhafir Harris, also known as DaDa 5000, for Bellator, where he won by third-round TKO. However, the result was later overturned due to elevated testosterone levels and a positive test for the steroid nandrolone.
He was scheduled to headline the Bellator 158 card in London next month, facing James Thompson in a rematch of their 2008 fight, which Slice had won by TKO.
His sudden death leaves the MMA community in shock, as fans were looking forward to his return to the octagon.
Kimbo Slice left behind a recent bride and six children, adding to the profound impact of his untimely passing.
Among his children is Kevin “Baby Slice” Ferguson Jr., who made his MMA debut in March. This connection to the sport continues his father’s legacy, as Baby Slice steps into the ring to forge his own path in mixed martial arts.
The loss of Slice resonates deeply within his family and the MMA community, highlighting both his influence and the ongoing journey of his family members.
