Chrissy Teigen recently shared that her and John Legend’s 6-year-old son, Miles, has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, July 31, Teigen, 38, addressed the public’s response to a previous photo of her and her children celebrating Simone Biles and Team USA.

“A lot of you noticed something a little special about a photo I posted a few days ago — Luna, Miles, and I celebrating Simone [Biles] and Team USA,” she wrote.

The photo, posted on July 29, showed Teigen with Miles and their daughter Luna, 8, holding signs that read, “Simone.” Observant followers noticed a device on Miles’ arm, which Teigen later confirmed was a diabetes monitor.

“You noticed his type-1 diabetes monitor and extended so much love and encouragement in every way possible,” Teigen continued. “I was, and am, so blown away by the kindness of this community, already.”

She acknowledged that while Miles’ diagnosis is challenging, she is aware that many parents face even more difficult circumstances.

Teigen explained that Miles had been ill with a “terrible case of shigella,” a bacterial infection, which led to his diabetes diagnosis after further medical examination revealed irregularities in his blood tests.

She shared that Miles is currently in the “honeymoon period of a lifetime of T1,” and that the family is adjusting to this new reality.

“Last night we gave him his first shot of insulin and here we go! A different, new world for us and we are certainly learning so much on the fly,” she wrote.

Teigen expressed her gratitude for the support they’ve received, noting how important it is for Miles to know he’s not alone.

She also shared a touching moment from when Legend, 45, read a book titled “Year One with Type One” to Miles on July 30. A passage in the book moved her to tears, describing parents’ empathy for their child’s pain and their willingness to endure it for them.

Teigen concluded her post by offering support to others facing similar challenges. “Anyhow, you are not alone either! And we promise to be there for you guys like you have been there for us already!”

Teigen and Legend welcomed Miles in 2018, and they are also parents to Luna, daughter Esti Maxine, 18 months, and son Wren, 13 months.
