Charley Hull, the English professional golfer, has mentioned that while it’s not a “deal-breaker” if a potential partner isn’t interested in golf, it certainly makes things easier if they are.
Being involved in the sport herself, she likely appreciates the understanding and shared interest that can come from a partner who also enjoys or at least appreciates golf.
However, it seems she’s open to the idea of being with someone who might not be as into the sport as she is, as long as they can support her passion.
“I’ve dated guys who golf and guys who don’t,” she revealed.
“‘It’s definitely easier if they do because that’s my spare time passion, too. If they don’t play, it’s harder for us to connect.”
Charley Hull was previously married to MMA fighter Ozzie Smith. The couple got married in September 2019 but unfortunately split in 2021.
Their relationship attracted some attention due to the contrast between Hull’s career in golf and Smith’s background in mixed martial arts.
Despite their different professional paths, they shared a life together for a few years before eventually going their separate ways.
“I’ve had a taste of high-profile relationships, but I didn’t love everything that came with it,” Hull hinted of her marriage. “So I’m steering clear of that for now.”
Charley Hull has acknowledged that finding a partner who can accept the demands of her busy schedule and the chaos that comes with being a professional athlete can be challenging.
As a successful golfer, Hull’s career requires a significant amount of travel, dedication, and focus, which can make it difficult to balance personal relationships.
She likely seeks a partner who can understand and support the unique lifestyle that comes with being in the sports industry.
“With all the practice and travel I do, my time is seriously limited,” Hull said.
“‘Finding time to meet new people and really get to know them is tough. Anyone I connect with has to be cool with that and able to build a real bond over FaceTime and texts.”
Charley Hull emphasized the importance of “making time for your partner and building trust through open communication” as essential elements in maintaining a successful relationship, even with a busy lifestyle.
She believes that if a couple shares these values, they can make a relationship work regardless of life’s demands.
However, Hull has currently put dating on hold as she focuses on competing for Team Great Britain in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Her dedication to her sport is her top priority for now, as she aims to excel in the Olympics.
“Being able to play in the Olympics is a dream,” she gushed. “I’m excited for that and also meeting new athletes that I may not have had the chance to meet.”
Charley Hull won’t be able to smoke on the course during the 2024 Summer Olympics due to the Paris 2024 health and safety guidelines, which prohibit smoking at any venues except in designated areas.
When asked about the rule, Hull simply remarked, “It is what it is.” Despite the restriction, she remains focused on the competition.
The women’s individual stroke play tournament began at Le Golf National on Wednesday, August 7, where Hull is representing Team Great Britain.
