Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, and Emily Blunt are set to return in the sequel, nearly two decades after the original film’s release.
It’s official: The Devil Wears Prada 2 is on its way. 20th Century Studios, the distributor behind the original 2006 film, announced on Monday that the sequel is now in production.
The news was revealed in a 21-second teaser posted to Instagram, showing a pair of glossy red stilettos with devil’s pitchfork heels slowly rotating as iconic audio clips from the original film play in the background.
“The Devil Wears Prada 2. Now in production.” the studio captioned the post. The upcoming film is set for release in 2026.
Based on Lauren Weisberger’s best-selling novel, the original film starred Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, a wide-eyed aspiring journalist who lands a job as the assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the formidable editor in chief of Runway magazine.
Immersed in the high-stakes world of fashion, Andy undergoes a dramatic transformation — both sartorially and personally — as she learns the true cost of success in the industry.
Miranda Priestly, famously inspired by real-life Vogue editor Anna Wintour, became one of Streep’s most iconic roles. The film grossed over $326 million globally and earned Streep an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

Hathaway, Streep, and fellow cast members Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci are all set to reprise their roles. In a new addition to the cast, Deadline reports that Kenneth Branagh will join the ensemble as Miranda Priestly’s husband.
The sequel will reportedly follow Priestly as she confronts the challenges facing traditional print media in the digital age.
According to the outlet, Aline Brosh McKenna — co-creator of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and the screenwriter of the original film — has been tapped to write the script. David Frankel, who directed the first installment, and producer Wendy Finerman are also in talks to return.
Despite the film now entering production, Hathaway previously expressed doubts about a sequel ever materializing.
“Probably not,” she told V Magazine in 2024. “We all love each other and if somebody could come up with a way to do it, I think we’d all be crazy not to.
But there’s a huge difference in the world now with technology, and one of the things about that particular story is it was about producing a physical object. Now with so much being digital, it would just be very different.”
Even so, the stars have aligned nearly two decades later — and fans of the original are finally getting the long-anticipated return to Runway.
