In her cover interview for its December 2023 Celebration Issue, tennis star Naomi Osaka opened up about her relationship with rapper Cordae after welcoming their daughter, Shai, in July.
Addressing the speculation about a potential split in October, Osaka explained that their relationship works well because they balance each other out.
She mentioned that they share a deep understanding and mutual support for each other’s careers and personal growth.
When it comes to parenting, Osaka highlighted that they are learning together and building a strong foundation as new parents, enjoying the journey of raising their daughter while respecting each other’s individuality and space.
“We built a really good foundation,” the 26-year-old Osaka said.
“I don’t know if it’s because he’s just an easygoing guy, but I think we just respect each other’s opinions.
And if we disagree on something, we talk it out. At the end of the day, we both want what’s best for Shai.”
Naomi Osaka and Cordae have been dating since 2019, and their relationship has often been in the public eye.
However, in October, she stirred breakup rumours when she posted a series of cryptic messages on social media and appeared to remove photos of Cordae from her Instagram page.
Despite the speculation, Osaka’s recent comments about their relationship suggest they have been navigating parenthood together and continue to support each other.
“I just want someone that will watch the sunset with me,” Osaka wrote in a post on X.
That followed a separate message shared, which read:
“The art of loving yourself.”
According to a source, Naomi Osaka and Cordae unfollowed each other on social media during the time of the split rumours, which fueled further speculation about their relationship status.
However, as of Thursday, the couple are following each other again on social media.
Despite the buzz and speculation surrounding a potential breakup, Osaka and Cordae never publicly addressed the rumours.
“I do remember feeling in that moment, This is the worst pain of my life,” Osaka said of being in labor. “And I know that if I get through this, then everything else will feel very easy.”
