Alec and Hilaria Baldwin are spending time with their family following the dismissal of the actor’s involuntary manslaughter case earlier this month.
After a judge dropped Alec’s charges related to the Rust shooting on July 12, a source informed that Alec is now enjoying summer in the Hamptons with his wife and children.
“They can finally breathe again,” the source shares. “They’re spending the summer in the Hamptons with the kids. Summer was essentially on hold until Alec’s trial concluded.”
“They feel thankful to be able to unwind now. Everyone’s savoring the family time,” the source adds.
The 66-year-old actor was on trial nearly three years after a gun he was holding on the set of his film Rust discharged in October 2021, resulting in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuries to director Joel Souza.
Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer dismissed the case with prejudice after Alec’s legal team argued that crucial evidence—specifically ammunition found by Troy Teske (a friend of the father of convicted Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed)—had not been disclosed to them.
Following the ruling, a source told that the couple, who embraced upon hearing the news in court, felt “relieved” that the ordeal was over.
“It’s been a sad situation, and there’s no winning here. They didn’t celebrate,” the insider explained. “They were very anxious and are now grateful to spend the rest of the summer with their kids.”
The charges were dismissed on the third day of the New Mexico trial after Alec’s attorney, Luke Nikas, argued that the State had violated the Brady rule, which mandates the prosecution to “disclose material, exculpatory information in the government’s possession to the defense,” according to the Cornell School of Law.
“The late discovery of this evidence during trial has impeded the effective use of evidence in such a way that it has impacted the fundamental fairness of the proceedings,” Judge Sommer said in part.
On July 13, Alec addressed the outcome in an Instagram post, expressing, “There are too many people who have supported me to thank just now. To all of you, you will never know how much I appreciate your kindness toward my family.”
On July 20, Alec and Hilaria, 40, made their first red carpet appearance since the trial at a screening of War Game during the Hamptons International Film Festival’s SummerDocs series in East Hampton, New York. Alec waved to fans and smiled on the red carpet during the event.
The couple, who have seven children, are set to offer fans a look into their family life with a new TLC series, The Baldwins, premiering in 2025.
They announced the series on Instagram, inviting viewers to “experience the ups and downs, the good, the bad, the wild and the crazy” aspects of their home life.
