Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías was arrested in September 2023 for domestic violence following an incident involving his wife outside BMO Stadium during an LAFC soccer game.
A video released by The Los Angeles Times shows Urías charging at his wife, pushing her against a fence, and pulling her by the hair, corroborating earlier reports.
Bystanders intervened, and security restrained him. Initially arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence, Urías later pleaded no contest to misdemeanor domestic battery in May 2024.
His sentence included 36 months of probation, 30 days of community labor, and a year-long domestic violence counseling course.
This incident is not Julio Urías’ first encounter with domestic violence allegations. In 2019, he received a 20-game suspension from MLB after reportedly pushing a woman in a parking lot, though no charges were filed at that time.
Following his 2023 arrest, Urías was placed on administrative leave by MLB, effectively ending his season with the Dodgers.
If he were to be suspended again, he would make history as the first player to face multiple suspensions under MLB’s domestic violence policy, which was established in 2015.
Despite these challenges, Urías has been a significant contributor to the Dodgers, notably playing a key role in their 2020 World Series victory and leading the National League in ERA in 2022.
However, his future in baseball is now in jeopardy as he faces serious charges, including spousal battery, domestic battery, false imprisonment, and assault.
The timeline for any potential disciplinary action from MLB remains unclear as the investigation continues.
