Gordon Ramsay doesn’t go easy on his children’s significant others. On July 26, BBC Sports released a conversation between the celebrity chef and Olympic gold medalist Adam Peaty.
While most people know the 29-year-old British swimmer for his prowess in the pool, Gordon knows him more personally: Peaty is dating his 24-year-old daughter, Holly.
During their conversation, they discussed Peaty’s Olympic journey. Peaty is competing in the men’s 100-meter breaststroke for Team GB in Paris starting on July 27.
When Ramsay, the MasterChef star, asked if Peaty planned to retire after his third Olympics, Peaty replied, “Who knows?”
Gordon’s teasing grin seemed to get into Peaty’s head playfully. Peaty joked, “You’re smiling, I’m not going to give you the pleasure of…I’m not gonna do it. You’re trapping me.”
With a hearty laugh, Gordon retorted, “You’re full of s—. You are definitely not retiring.” The father of six continued to jest, saying, “Don’t f— this up.” Peaty responded with, “No pressure!”
Putting the joking aside, they celebrated Peaty’s upcoming Olympic run and discussed his race preparation.
“I think about happy moments — moments with Holly, with George,” he said, referring to his son from a previous relationship.
“Flooding the mind with optimism and hope until 10 minutes before that race.”
Despite his tough-guy persona, it’s clear Ramsay approves of Holly’s partner, whom she went Instagram official with on July 10, 2023.
“You’ve got a big heart, you take things personally like I do,” Ramsay told the swimmer.
Ramsay has come a long way in accepting his daughters’ partners. Along with Holly, he and his wife Tana have five other children: Megan, 26, Jack, 24, Tilly, 22, Oscar, 5, and Jesse, 8 months.
During a 2022 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Ramsay admitted he’s “so naughty sometimes” with the guys in their lives.
“I just want the girls to be looked after and for them to look after each other,” he explained. “You’re always anxious about that.”
He shared an example involving Megan’s then-boyfriend Byron, whom she had started seeing again after a breakup.
“He was okay to begin with,” Ramsay said. “A bit wet. A little bit sort of… you want a man to date your daughter, and he was just a little bit pathetic.”
“I want to kill the little f—er, I kid you not,” Ramsay joked.
