Tyrese Gibson has been open about the struggles he’s faced following his divorce from Samantha Lee, often discussing the emotional impact it had on him.
On “Club Shay Shay,” he revealed that the fallout from their marriage profoundly affected him, making the process of recovery quite challenging.
Tyrese Gibson used the platform to promote his upcoming film and album, Beautiful Pain.
During the episode, which aired on August 28, he addressed female viewers, clarifying that he wasn’t attempting to be “misogynistic” or “condescending.” Gibson voiced concern about contemporary female singers promoting the notion that “they don’t need a man.”
In a message “to all the beautiful women in the world,” he continued, “No one needs to to go home to a poodle and a vibrator. Nobody needs to be alone, nobody should be alone.”
Tyrese Gibson criticized the idea of being alone as “bullshit,” arguing that it’s inconsistent when some female singers who promote this idea are in relationships themselves.
His remarks on what he described as “toxic ass shit” led him to reflect on the impact of his own divorce from Samantha Lee.
“So I was not devastated when my divorce ended, because I wanted someone or something to be with me,” he said.
“I got married because I wanted to do it for the rest of my life, because I led the way I felt and what I had in my marriage and my family.”
Tyrese Gibson joked that his happiness was “up there with the Care Bears,” but admitted he was “devastated and crushed” when Samantha Lee filed for divorce.
The ex-spouses share a 5-year-old daughter, Soraya, while Gibson also has a 16-year-old daughter, Shayla, from his first marriage to Norma Mitchell.
“I let God down, you see. I didn’t promise her anything,” Gibson told host Shannon Sharpe.
Elsewhere, he said, “I’ve never allowed anyone to matter as much as my marriage mattered. I’ve also I’ve also never gave anyone so much of myself, ever.”
“I’m out here stressed the fuck out,” he said in the video below. “She divorced me and they’re rubbing their hands over there, hoping I do more concerts, shows, movies… They’re trying to get to the bottom of what actual money is in my bank account so they can put it in their law firm’s pockets. This is a dirty fucking game out here, ain’t it? Welp, y’all keep waiting.”
