Chloe San Jose, the girlfriend of gymnast Carlos Yulo, was born in the Philippines and raised in Australia. She is a model and an online influencer.
At just 22 years old, San Jose has built a significant online presence. Her YouTube channel has garnered over 476,000 subscribers, where she shares song covers.
In January 2021, she released a single titled “Aking Pagmamahal” (My Love), dedicated to her boyfriend Carlos.
San Jose is also highly active on social media, with a strong following of over 1.1 million on TikTok and 136,000 on Instagram.
Her posts frequently feature her modeling various outfits, including bikinis, lingerie, and dresses. In addition to her online career, San Jose is pursuing a degree in nursing.
San Jose and Carlos’ relationship began when she reached out to him on X, previously known as Twitter, in April 2020.
“Hi, I’m a fan,” she wrote. “Just came across your account and noticed you’re not as active as before. I hope you’re doing well. Stay safe. God bless.”
Carlos responded with, “Hello, hehe. Anyway, I’m doing great here. Thank you. Take care there too and God bless.”
Despite the challenges of a long-distance relationship, with Carlos training in Japan and San Jose studying in Australia, their connection grew into a romance. They first met in person at the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam in 2022.
Since then, San Jose has been a supportive presence in Carlos’ career, accompanying him to significant events like the 2024 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup series in Qatar and the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics, where Carlos won two gold medals.
However, their relationship has faced criticism, particularly from Carlos’ mother, Angelica Poquiz Yulo. Angelica has accused San Jose of exploiting her son and contributing to tensions between her and Carlos.
Carlos, however, came to San Jose’s defense in a TikTok video on Aug. 6. He explained, “She [Angelica] judges Chloe by the way she acts and dresses.
First of all, Chloe was in Australia and grew up in that culture. And it’s very different from how people dress or talk in the Philippines.”
He also dismissed his mother’s suspicions that Chloe was financially exploiting him, stating: “Chloe has her own income.
Everything you see her using and all her travels come from her hard work,” adding that there have been times when Chloe had to support him financially.
At 24 years old, Carlos Yulo is celebrated as the most successful Filipino gymnast in history.
He is the second Filipino to win an Olympic gold medal and the first to achieve multiple Olympic golds for the country.
As a result, Carlos is expected to receive several honors from the Philippine government, including a three-bedroom condo in Manila’s McKinley Hill valued at 32 million pesos (US$558,000), as reported by Fortune magazine.
