Former Miami Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis was found dead in a Southwest Ranches home on Monday morning. His death was confirmed by his long-time friend and business partner, Vladimir Moise.

The property where he was found is owned by his grandmother, Adaline Davis.

Davie police have indicated that no foul play is suspected in Vontae Davis’s death. His former coach, Chester Frazier, also confirmed the news on X (formerly Twitter).

At a Zoom news conference, Fighting Illini head football coach Bret Bielema, who did not coach Vontae Davis but competed against him as an NFL assistant, described Davis as a “very loved” player at Illinois, highlighting his “passion” and “intensity.”

“I just saw an incredibly talented player; checked all the boxes,” Bielema said. “I knew he was going to be a great not just college player, but in the NFL.”

The Dolphins drafted Vontae Davis in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft but traded him to the Indianapolis Colts during the 2012 training camp.

Vontae Davis is perhaps best known for announcing his retirement during a game between the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Chargers in 2018.
