Saoirse Ronan is now a married woman! The four-time Oscar nominee, 30, wed her Mary Queen of Scots costar and longtime partner, Jack Lowden, earlier this year, as confirmed by the register of Scottish civil marriages records.
The Sunday Independent reported that the ceremony took place over the weekend of July 20. It was an intimate affair, with only a handful of their closest friends and family in attendance at the Edinburgh Central Registrar’s Office in Lowden’s native Scotland.
News of Lowden, 34, and Ronan’s romance surfaced in December 2018, coinciding with their appearance together in the movie Mary Queen of Scots, where she played Mary Stuart and he portrayed her husband, Lord Darnley. Speculation about their relationship began to circulate that same month.
Their relationship had developed beyond friendship. However, a year later, the Little Women star denied the rumors when asked about her relationship with Lowden.
“Am I allowed to ask if you’re going out with the person that everyone thinks you’re going out with?” a reporter for The Telegraph inquired in December 2019. Ronan replied, “No,” ending the discussion.
Lowden also avoided addressing the rumors about their love life, telling in February 2019, “Oh I’m not going to talk about that. I don’t like talking about that side of life.”
Despite their denials, rumors persisted. Photos came out of Lowden and Ronan spending time together near her London home in 2020, and Lowden was seen supporting Ronan after she finished a stage production of The Tragedy of Macbeth in 2021.
Additionally, they were spotted at the Australian Open together in 2022 and began appearing on each other’s social media.
Ronan featured in various posts on Lowden’s Instagram in 2022 (though all posts have since been deleted), and Lowden shared photos from a 2023 trip to Japan that included glimpses of Ronan.
The couple took and shared a mirror selfie in December 2023 to celebrate the new year. “NYE. Lang May yer Lum Reek. Be good, be bad, but fannies we are all,” Lowden captioned the shot.
In June, Lowden shared videos on Instagram Stories of himself and Ronan at the Glastonbury music festival in England, and posted a romantic photo of himself with his arms wrapped around Ronan on his grid.
