Tennis star Coco Gauff is gearing up for the 2024 Paris Olympics with the support of a special person in her life.
The United States Tennis Association announced in June that Gauff would be competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics, which are scheduled to run from July 27 to August 4.
Although Gauff has not disclosed the identity of her boyfriend, she shared in her April cover story that they have been together for about a year.
“This is my first real relationship,” Gauff told.
She added, “To just have someone to talk to who is not involved in tennis at all gives me a fresh perspective.”
While the name of her boyfriend remains private, Gauff has offered a few details about him.
He’s from Atlanta
Gauff has mentioned that her boyfriend is from Atlanta, which she initially shared with Vogue in March and reiterated in April. Gauff herself is also from Atlanta, where she was inspired by tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams.
“As a little girl, it was very important to see representation and see myself in players, especially in the field where it is predominantly white,” Gauff said. “I don’t think I would have had the belief I could do it if it wasn’t for them.”
Her mom was his fourth-grade teacher
Gauff revealed that her mother, Candi Gauff, was her boyfriend’s fourth-grade teacher.
“My mom always said, if they’re bad in school, they’re probably bad as adults,” Candi Gauff told. “He’s always been a smart, nice kid.”
He wants to be an actor and plays the guitar
According to Gauff’s interview, her boyfriend is currently a student with aspirations to become an actor.
“He’s a very nice guy. He’s in school now. He’s about to apply for music school. He wants to be an actor and he plays the guitar,” she shared.
Twitter knows who he is
Gauff noted in her March Vogue interview that “people on Twitter found him two or three days ago.”
“I won’t respond and confirm if it’s him or not, but they caught me in the comments, so they know,” she said.
They talked the night before she won the 2023 U.S. Open. After her victory at the 2023 U.S. Open in September, Gauff mentioned in her press conference that she had spoken with her boyfriend the night before her final match.
“I just called my boyfriend and I told him let’s talk until it was time to go to sleep,” she said. “So we spoke until 1:00 a.m. and then I went to sleep and I woke up this morning.”
He’ll probably attend her U.S. tournaments
Gauff mentioned to People on June 25 that her boyfriend will likely attend some of her U.S. tournaments.
“My boyfriend, he’ll probably come to maybe some tournaments in the U.S. It’s just a little bit easier than coming to Europe,” she said. Gauff’s next U.S. match will take place after the Olympics.
