Olympic gymnast MyKayla Skinner and her husband, Jonas Harmer, have had a strong relationship since their college days.
The couple met while Skinner was attending the University of Utah, and Harmer was at Brigham Young University. They announced their engagement in October 2019 and got married in November of the same year.
After four years of marriage, Skinner and Harmer welcomed their daughter, Charlotte, also known as Lottie, in September 2023.
Harmer has supported Skinner through various moments, including her silver medal win in vault at the 2020 Olympics and the backlash she faced after criticizing the “work ethic” of the women’s Olympic gymnastics team in a since-deleted YouTube video from June 2024.
Skinner later apologized, saying her statements were “misinterpreted” and clarifying that she wasn’t necessarily referring to the current team.
The couple started dating in 2017 while they were students at Utah colleges.
“Can’t believe it’s already been 10 months since the day I finally said yes to being your girlfriend!” Skinner wrote on Instagram in September 2018, sharing a photo of them kissing.
They announced their engagement in October 2019 and married at the Gilbert Arizona Temple the following month.
Skinner shared Instagram photos of them holding hands on their honeymoon in Thailand, captioning one post, “He’s still just as cute on the other side of the world!”
After adopting a new kitten, Harmer shared a playful Instagram post, writing, “It’s a girl!” alongside a photo of the couple and their new pet.
Ahead of the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team Trials in 2021, Harmer expressed his support for Skinner on Instagram, saying, “No matter what happens tonight, she’s always a winner to me. So so proud of you, MyKayla, for everything you’ve done.
Harmer faced backlash for comments in 2022 made on their “Agree to Disagree” podcast, where he said Skinner had it “easy” because he handled their finances and the house, while she “just cook[s] up a cute little baby.”
One X user criticized him, saying, “The way he discounted literally everything she does is absolutely vile.”
Another sarcastically remarked, “Ah yes because Olympians are famously lazy.” Skinner laughed off the comments but noted, “I clean. I take care of the house, in a way.”
Skinner and Harmer welcomed their daughter, Lottie. In November, Harmer praised Skinner on Instagram, stating that “becoming a mom has been the hardest and most challenging thing” she had ever done and calling him the “best dad.”
That same month, they appeared on American Ninja Warrior: Couples Championship.
Skinner shared an Instagram video of her and Harmer cuddling their daughter, captioning it, “This is Lottie’s world and we’re just livin in it.”
